Alberta Colleges, Universities, and
Schools
Alberta is known as the Rocky
Mountain playground, and if you go to school there, you'll see why. The mountains
stand like protective giants rising above the plains. Of course, the Rockies have
more to offer than scenery. The province is known for its outdoor enjoyments-from
hiking and camping, to fishing, hunting, skiing, and much more. If you like swimming,
boating, or just hanging out on the shore, Alberta's Lake Louise attracts visitors
from around the world. Another visitor magnet is the resort area of Banff, where
you can attend cultural festivals, go rock climbing, play golf on championship courses,
and then soak in natural hot springs.
Of course, if you tell your friends you are going to study in Alberta, they're bound
to ask whether you plan to attend the Calgary Stampede. The answer is "yes!"
The stampede, a celebration of the wild, wild west, has been a yearly occurrence
since 1912. It features a rodeo, fair, amusement park, and ten fun days of events.
One visitor described it as, "Mardi Gras with cowboy hats."
If all that fresh air gets to be too much for you, you can always go to a concert,
dance performance, or a comedy club. Hockey is also a favorite Alberta pastime. Going
to school there will probably turn you into a Calgary Flames fan. When that gets
tiring, go to the province's capital city of Edmonton and shop until you drop at
the world's largest shopping mall and entertainment complex.
